An arena for Bristol - not South Gloucestershire

It will be years before the Bristol Arena graces the local skyline, but at the recent full Council meeting, Cllr Clare Campion-Smith voted in favour of the original Temple Meads site, over the Mayor’s out of town location.

Bristol Liberal Democrats hope that a city centre arena will bring more music and culture to the heart of Bristol, benefiting local business and Bristol residents.

The Mayor’s lack of clarity between the Temple Meads and Filton sites has been hugely frustrating to Bristol’s residents, and unhelpful to the process of democratic analysis. He says he’s doing a value for money review, but Bristol Liberal Democrats believe that building an out of town arena will inevitably lead to more traffic and more car journeys. It is also likely to pull hospitality, businesses and jobs out of central Bristol into South Gloucestershire.

The final decision rests with the Mayor - hopefully he has listened to Bristol’s Councillors, of whom a majority favoured Temple Meads.
